Saran: After Saran Arrest, Teacher Under Lens As Leak Source | Jaipur News
JAIPUR/UDAIPUR: A day after Bhupendra Saran, the alleged kingpin of the paper leak in the senior teachers recruitment examination, was arrested at Bengaluru airport, a government schoolteacher came under the scanner for allegedly being the first in the chain of suspects who had leaked the question paper, leading to the cancellation of the examinations in December last.
The male schoolteacher is suspected to have supplied the question paper to the paper leak kingpin Bhupendra Saran in a deal worth nearly Rs 40 lakh. Sources said the teacher had met Saran in a town in western Rajasthan. Police, however, said investigations to ascertain the source of the leak is still at an early stage. During his interrogation, Saran had named a few people including a teacher named Sher Singh, said an official.
“The interrogation with Saran is underway. Whatever he says must be corroborated with sufficient evidence,” said a police official.
Udaipur police had on December 24 busted the cheating racket and arrested headmaster Suresh Kumar Vishnoi for distributing question papers to nearly 46 students. Vishnoi claimed during his interrogation that Saran and Suresh Dhaka sent him question papers before the examinations.
Saran was taken to Udaipur on Friday morning and produced before a court, which sent him to police remand till Monday. According to police, it was he who first got the question paper before the examination and sold it. Investigators are still trying to piece together information on the person who delivered the question paper to Saran.
“He (Saran) is under interrogation. Once we confirm the source of the leak, only then we will be able to reveal the identities of the main culprit who breached the secrecy of the examination papers,” added the official.
Police said they are also trying to find the exact number of people whom Saran had sold the question papers. A special police team is also quizzing Saran to trace his accomplice, Suresh Dhaka.
The GK paper of the recruitment examination was cancelled hours before its scheduled time of start on December 24 last.
