Jaipur: Rajasthan topped the country on Wednesday in linking Aadhaar cards with voter IDs, having collected over 55 lakh Aadhaar details from voters of the state as a part of the special campaign – ‘from CEO to BLO’.
So far, 2.52 crore voter IDs have been linked with Aadhaar cards across the country. In Rajasthan, 55.86 lakh voter IDs have been linked with Aadhaar cards, said chief electoral officer of Rajasthan, Praveen Gupta. “On August 9, 12.24 lakh applications were received in a single day,” he added.
“Linking of Aadhaar number with voter ID is a voluntary exercise. But, Aadhaar numbers are being linked with the voter IDs to prevent duplication in the names of voters and other discrepancies,” said Gupta.
“Under this campaign, all district election officers, EROs, booth level officers (BLOs) are giving hands-on information in government, non-government, private offices, institutions, colleges and schools about linking voter IDs with Aadhaar numbers through ‘Voter Helpline’ app,” said Gupta.
A new Form-6B has also been introduced for collecting Aadhaar number of existing electors. Form-6B will be available on the website of the Election Commission of India. Voters can also feed Aadhaar numbers online through booth level officers (BLOs).
On the instructions of the chief electoral officer, the SWEEP branch of the election department had organised sessions to create awareness about the process of linking voter IDs with Aadhaar numbers through the app at government colleges in Jaipur, disaster management assistance and civil defence department, food and civil supplies department, pension department, information and public relations department, anti-corruption bureau and SIEMAT.
During this, the officials of various departments and students of schools and colleges got voter IDs linked with Aadhaar numbers, voter registrations and correction in voter IDs done themselves through voter helpline App.
