Rathore: Rathore Decries Rahat Camps, Calls Them Trouble For Elderly, Divyangs | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Attacking the state government over its ambitious ‘Mehangai Rahat Camps’, Leader of Opposition Rajendra Singh Rathore on Sunday said that the government is forcing residents, including the elderly and Divyangs, to come out in scorching heat and to re-register themselves to take the benefit of many schemes.
A day before the camps are to begin state-wide, Rathore alleged that the government’s intention was only to showcase the crowd at these camps. “The government could have provided relief to the people by making the benefits of the schemes available to them at their homes like the central government does through the direct benefit transfer system. To get benefits under pension schemes and those for Divyangs, people will have to go to these camps for re-registration. Why does the government unnecessarily want to harass the people?” he asked.
Accusing the Congress government of not giving relief to the people from price rise in the past four years and a half, Rathore alleged that these camps are being organized seven months before the Assembly polls as a political exercise. “Congress workers will also be made to sit at these camps along with government officials. The government is politicizing these camps,” said Rathore.
“Inflation is at its peak in Rajasthan as the highest VAT is being imposed on petrol and diesel. Farmers of the state are also paying the highest mandi tax, and residents are forced to pay for expensive electricity. In Rajasthan, the state government levies 31.04% VAT and Rs 1.50 road cess on petrol, and 19.30% VAT and Rs 1.75 road cess on diesel. During the previous BJP government, VAT on diesel was 18% and VAT on petrol was only 26%. In the Gehlot regime, VAT on petrol and diesel has been increased six times and was reduced only twice. This government has worked to increase inflation,” said Rathore, the BJP legislator from Churu.
He claimed that like Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, these 2,700 camps being organized from April 24 would also be a flop show. “Congress is attempting to please the disgruntled workers after making them in-charge of the camps in the election year. However, nearly 50,000 departmental employees, 700 tehsildars, 1,100 naib tehsildars, 4,121 girdawars, 12,000 patwaris, more than 11,000 gram vikas adhikari, 6,000 information assistants, and more than 11,285 sarpanches plan to boycott these camps,” said Rathore.
“In its manifesto, Congress had announced to bring petrol and diesel under GST. Promises were also made to control the prices of LPG, but nothing was done,” he added.
