Traffic Diversion: Last-minute Traffic Plan Change Hits Motorists |

Jaipur: A few last-minute changes in the initial plan of traffic diversion for Ganesh Chaturthi put motorists in spot of bother on Tuesday.
Although traffic police had initially stated that vehicular movements would be restricted on JLN Marg from JDA Chouraha to Trimurti Circle, from Tuesday morning police had stopped movement of four wheelers from Gandhi Circle itself.
Around 9am on Tuesday, traffic officials put barricades on the Trimurti (North) bound flank of JLN Marg right at the Gandhi Circle and only allowed two-wheelers to ply on the stretch between Gandhi Circle to JDA Chouraha. No four-wheelers or three-wheelers like auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws were allowed on this stretch.
“This was done to ensure that there’s not much traffic pressure on the stretch leading to the Ganesh Mandir on Moti Doongri Road. Several pilgrims visited the temple on four wheelers and even big buses. We had to ensure that there was enough space for these vehicles and not much pressure on traffic,” said Prahlad Krishnia.
Because of this decision, several vehicles bound for Govind Marg, Raja Park and Transport Nagar had to take a long diversion towards Jhalana Bypass and a right turn from Jhalana Doongri to reach their destinations.
A traffic cop on duty claimed that the decision was taken because the venue of the fair was on the stretch between JLN Marg and Trimurti Circle. But, a few stalls had also been setup by the civic body between JDA Chauraha and the Rajasthan University Gate. Vendors selling Ganesh idols on the sideways adjacent to the university gate continued with their businesses even on Tuesday. “So, it was decided to stop the movement of four wheelers and the side lanes were dedicated only for parking,” the official stated.
The civic body, however, claimed that they have role in setting up stalls in the fair. “We are only responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the fair venue during the time of the fair and to clean up the mess once the fair is over,” said Babu Lal Goyal, commissioner of JMC-Greater.

Traffic diversions from today
Lucknow Police will impose traffic diversions during the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival and idol immersion. Commuters will be diverted from the Hanuman Setu route to alternative routes such as Maqbara Road and Telephone Exchange Road. Traffic from Hanuman Setu to Jhulelal park will also be diverted via IT Crossing. Vehicles from Hanuman Setu and Nadwa will be diverted towards IT crossing. Emergency vehicles will still have access to the restricted routes. Meanwhile, flash floods in Jammu have washed away a temporary culvert on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch national highway, forcing traffic to be diverted to alternate routes. Efforts are being made to restore the highway.
Potholed DH Rd stretch hits traffic in hosp zone
The poor condition of DH Road between Remount Road and Kidderpore in Kolkata is causing traffic problems around SSKM Hospital and the Alipore hospital zone. The road has been damaged by ongoing projects and heavy rains, leading to car breakdowns and traffic jams. Motorists are now taking alternative routes, creating a bottleneck and significantly slowing down traffic. The congestion is causing commuter trouble and increasing travel time by around 15 minutes. The primary reasons for the jam are the ongoing sewerage line work and buses not following traffic rules.
