2 Who Posed As Sadhus, Fled With Jewellery Nabbed In Hry | Jaipur News
Kota: The city police on Friday arrested two persons from a village in Palwal district of Haryana and recovered gold jewellery, who duped a family in Kunhari area of Kota earlier this month, posing as sadhus. Police also seized a luxury SUV.
A police team arrested Nawab Nath (35) of Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh and Sanjeev Nath (28) of Palwal district in Haryana from the latter’s house in Chandhatt police station area and recovered gold jewellery and a luxurious SUV.
The accused had cheated the victim in the disguise of a sadhu, said Kota city S.P. Sharad Choudhary on Saturday.
The key accused Nawab Nath was detained from his in – laws’ house in a village in Palwal district and other accused Sanjeev is his distant relative.
Family members of the two accused and villagers protested against police action and damaged a police van.
A resident of Kunhari area of the city lodged a report on June 3 alleging a sadhu came with him to his home and in the name of sorting out family troubles with puja and mantra, he swindled gold and silver jewellery through handy tricks from them, he added.
In initial interrogation, the two accused admitted to have cheated at least 16 people by posing as sadhu in cities of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi, added Choudhary.
The accused would select soft targets with some trouble in the family and claim of solving their problems through exorcism and puja. Meanwhile they would ask to place all the jewellery in the house for puja and would cheat them with the same by handy tricks. The two accused would be produced before court on Sunday and would be taken on remand for interrogation on recovery of remaining jewellery, he said.
Nawab lived a flashy life wearing fashionable clothes, maintaining a luxurious rooftop SUV and eating non-veg and drinking liquor with no sign of sadhuhood in his personal routine life, said circle officer of Kunhari area DSP Shankar Lal.
