Nahargarh: Identify Industries Disposing Of Waste In Nahargarh: Ngt | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the state government to identify industries that are disposing of their waste inside the Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Jaipur. The state has been directed to compile a list of such industries and submit it within two weeks.
The NGT order came on a complaint filed by an environmentalist.
The order states that the applicant’s basic concern, of continuous discharge of untreated effluent by industries through drains constructed by RIICO in the industrial estate developed on an area currently designated as the Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary’s Eco-Sensitive Zone, could not be disputed.
On March 8, 2019, the Government of India issued a gazette notification declaring an Eco-Sensitive Zone (0-13km) around the Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Only essential activities were permitted while all commercial activities were prohibited.
Following the complaint submitted by the applicant on January 22, 2022, the forester of Naka Maylabagh Wildlife Sanctuary filed an FIR report. On January 31, 2022, the regional forest officer served a letter to the senior manager of RIICO, directing them to remove the pucca construction and cease the discharge of untreated effluents and industrial waste in the Nahargarh sanctuary. However, these activities have not been stopped.
RTI activist Rajendra Tiwari said that on June 8, 2022, a joint survey was conducted in the presence of forest and RIICO representatives. It was revealed that khasra number 3 had been transferred to RIICO by a government order issued in 1971 for the establishment of industries. Additionally, khasra number 10 was recorded as Gair Mumkin Nala in the name of the forest department.
Tiwari said, “It was found that RIICO had levelled the forest land and constructed two pucca drains for the purpose of discharging untreated effluents and industrial waste, which is illegal and against forest laws.”
