40 Rajasthanis stranded in Sudan, Rajasthan govt launches helpline numbers | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: With chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressing concern about Rajasthanis stranded in Sudan, the Rajasthan government has forwarded a list of 40 such NRIs, who are presently residing in the violence-hit nation, to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The state government has also released helpline numbers for those in need of assistance or information.
“Those who require assistance can contact the helpline numbers — 91 83060 09838, 0141-2229111, and 011-23070807. The ACS (Coordination) cum chief esident Commissioner, Bikaner House, Shubhra Singh, has requested Non-Resident Rajasthanis (NRRs) to contact the helpline numbers provided on social media channels and the website of the Rajasthan Foundation,” a government release stated.
The state government had previously provided emergency helpline numbers for Rajasthani diasporas affected by natural disasters like earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Reportedly, more than 300 people had died in Sudan as the country’s army and a paramilitary group got involved in a deadly fighting for over a week.
Meanwhile, Dhiraj Srivastava – the resident commissioner (Bikaner House) in Delhi and commissioner of the Rajasthan Foundation, attended a meeting with MEA officials in New Delhi to discuss the current situation and ensure that all people from Rajasthan in Sudan receive the necessary assistance.
“The state government is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens in the conflict zone and will work with NRR Mitras to support those affected by the conflict in Sudan,” Srivastava said.
During the meeting attended by the Additional Secretary of the MEA and the Resident Commissioner, it was divulged that the MEA is prepared to provide relief measures and evacuate stranded Indians. A list of 161 stranded people in Sudan, including 40 from Rajasthan, and their contact numbers have been provided to the MEA.
