On Saturday, four deaths were reported from Bokaro in Jharkhand, two from Amroha in UP, and two deaths from Rajkot in Gujarat.
In Dholpur, three youths were electrocuted when they came in contact with a high-tension wire on their way to the burial of tazia on Sunday morning, a day after Muharram, at Karbala Maidan under Kotwali police station area.
Ex gratia of Rs 5L announced
A fourth youth, who too got the shock, survived and is undergoing treatment for burn injuries. According to police, as part of the tazia procession, several youths were on their way for the burial. “Suddenly, a portion of the tazia got in contact with an 11KV electricity line and four youths carrying it sustained burn injuries. Among the four, Muveen (25), Anwar(19) and Waseem(18) got severe injuries and were killed,” a senior police officer of Kotwali police station said.
The fourth youth, Waseem (19), who became unconscious, was given CPR by the doctors at a nearby hospital and he survived the shock, the officer added. When contacted, Dholpur SP Manoj Kumar said, “Three were killed and one was injured after they got electric shock while carrying tazia on their shoulders. The electric wires were hanging low.
Two people of the electricity department and two policemen have been suspended.” District administration announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased. “We have suspended a junior engineer and lineman of the electricity department and two policemen,” said Anil Agarwal, Dholpur district collectorthe doctors at a nearby hospital and he survived the shock, the officer added.
