JAIPUR: The 40 Rajasthanis, who were working in Sudan, would reach New Delhi on Wednesday morning. The team has left Port of Sudan on Monday evening on a repatriation ship to reach Saudi Arabia. From there, they would reach Delhi on an aircraft.
“When we left Khartoum on Sunday morning, we were told that we would be airlifted from Port of Sudan. However, on reaching the port city we came to know that a ship has been arranged for us. The ship would take us to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and from there we would reach Delhi by a flight on Wednesday morning,” Raghuveer Sharma, one of the evacuees, told TOI.
On Saturday, the state government has forwarded the list of these 40 Rajasthanis to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). All these Rajasthanis are the employees are of the Omega Steel Plant in Khartoum.
“I had managed to talk to my five relatives once they reach the Port of Sudan on Monday afternoon. We have been informed that they would reach Delhi on Wednesday morning. The government has taken responsibility to drop them back to home. However, we are not sure about the schedule after they reach Delhi. We are eagerly waiting for them,” said Shyam Sharma, who hails from Bhoowala village under Dhod tehsil, located around 20kms from Sikhar.
Officials close to the development had stated that MEA had launched “Operation Kaveri” to rescue 3,000 Indian citizens presently located throughout Sudan. The Indian Air Force had already transported two transport aircraft and a naval ship in Jeddah. The evacuees would be brought back on these aircraft and ship in phases.
“All residents of Rajasthan are safe and are a part of the evacuation mission. They had reached Port of Sudan on Monday afternoon and had started their onward journey,” said Dhiraj Srivastava – the resident commissioner (Bikaner House) in Delhi and commissioner of the Rajasthan Foundation.
