5 Dists Win Cm’s Road Safety Award For Low Accident Mortalities | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Five districts — Pali, Karauli, Baran, Jalore and Jhalawar — received the Chief Minister Road Safety Award from the state transport department on Wednesday for making roads safer and reducing accident mortalities.
This award was announced by chief minister Ashok Gehlot in his budget speech for 2020-21.
KL Swami, commissioner transport department also gave Good Samaritan awards to officials from different districts who helped accident victims in the golden hour. In his address, the commissioner said that more people must come forward to help accident victims and save lives.
Officials said in 2021, these districts reduced the death rate by 10% or more compared to other districts. All the districts have been given an award of Rs 10 lakh, which will be further used for improving road safety measures.
“During the closing ceremony of road safety week, five district were given the Chief Minister Road Safety Award for reducing death rate from accidents. There was a prize amount of Rs 50 lakh, which was divided between all the districts as all of them had done good work. Maximum of 16% reduction in death rate after accidents was by Pali district in 2021,” said Nidhi Singh, joint commissioner of road safety with the state transport department.
As per a report released by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) last year, Rajasthan was among the top 10 states that recorded the highest number of accidents in the country in 2020.
The state had ranked fourth in the country in terms of highest fatalities reported. According to the MoRTH report, accident severity (deaths per 100 accidents) in Rajasthan was at 48, while the national average is 36. As part of road safety week, different activities were undertaken in various districts. In Bikaner district, road safety awareness rallies were conducted along with painting reflector paint on horns of stray cattle, which is a major cause of accidents on highways. Across the state, ‘No Reflector, No Vehicle’ campaign was also run wherein district authorities installed reflector devices or applied reflector paint on the rear of vehicles.
