Jaipur: Community Health Assistants (CHA), who had been protesting for three months at Shahid Smarak demanding regularisation of services, were dispersed by police on Tuesday evening.
The move came after the state government imposed Section 144 in the wake of Udaipur killing.
For Covid management, the health department had deployed 25,000 CHAs in different districts on temporary basis.
The government had removed them from services on March 31. Protesting against the state government’s decision, the CHA started protesting from April 1 at Shahid Smarak demanding regularisation of their services.
“Six out of 174 protesters were arrested while the rest dispersed by using force,” said an officer of Jaipur police commissionerate.
Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) president Hanuman Beniwal criticised the move of police.
“Police action is condemable. @RLPINDIAorg family stands with the CHA. If the police have arrested anyone from the dharna place, then release them immediately,” Beniwal tweeted.
“The CHA, who has been protesting for their rights democratically for a long time at Shahid Smarak was lathicharged by police. It is a very condemnable step,” Beniwal tweeted.
