6 killed in rains in Banswara dist, over 300 rescued across state
JAIPUR/UDAIPUR: Six people were killed in the state on Sunday as heavy rainfall continued in Banswara and Dungarpur districts for the fourth consecutive day. Bagidora in Banswara received a rainfall of 356mm, the highest in the state.
All the six were killed in rain-related mishaps in Banswara. Over 300 people have been rescued and taken to safer places in Banswara and Dungarpur districts. SDRF and civil defence teams led rescue opearations in these districts which had seen incessant rains from Saturday evening. However, by evening, water began to recede from majority of the places.
“Six people lost their lives in rain-related mishaps in various places in Banswara. The deceased included four women. While three of them drowned, three were killed in a wall collapse. The deceased were identified as Santu (68), Shilpa (age not verified), Sugna (48), Kala (50), Amar (age not verified) and Dinesh (45),” said Banswara district collector PC Sharma to TOI.
Heavy rain to continue in Udaipur & Kota divisions
The deaths were reported from Anand Puri, Kaswarwadi and Kushalgarh areas of Banswara. At least, 150 people were rescued from inundated areas, including Dokar village under Anandpuri area of Banswara, he said. A large number of people were stuck in Beneshwar Dham, a place for pilgrimage in Dungarpur district. Some 160 people were rescued from the Galiakot area of Dungarpur.
“All these people were shifted to a school where arrangements have been made. The school is also close to a primary health centre,” said a senior officer from Dungarpur. Following Bagidora in Banswara, Sajjangarh (280mm), Sallopot and Shergarh with 270mm each, Kesarpura (250), and Banswara (220) from the same district recorded the highest rainfall. Peepalkhunt (150) in Pratapgarh, Mount Abu (40) in Sirohi, Kolayat (100) in Bikaner, Desuri (70) in Pali also saw heavy showers.
A rainfall of 10 to 60mm was recorded in several places in Jaipur, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Ajmer and Kota divisions. In Jaipur, people woke up to cloudy conditions and mild showers. It drizzled throughout the day and made for pleasant weather. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degree Celsius in the morning with the maximum going up to 28.0 degree Celsius in the afternoon. In its forecast, the Met office said heavy rainfall would continue in Udaipur and Kota divisions. The rest of the state would experience mild to moderate showers over the next 24 hours.
