70-yr-old Duped Of 15l Through Sextortion, 1 Arrested In Bharatpur | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Four months after a 70-year-old man from Kota was cheated of Rs 15 lakh through sextortion by Mewat criminals, a joint team of Kota and Bharatpur police arrested a man involved in the case from Bharatpur on Friday.
The victim had received a video call from an scantily-dressed woman in January. Though the victim disconnected the phone, he began getting calls from a man to pay money else the video would be made public. Finally, the man lodged a complaint at Kota’s Mahaveer Nagar police station on February 4.
After visiting states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, a joint team of Kota and Bharatpur police nailed down the culprit.
“In the FIR, the 70-year-old said he got a video call on his WhatsApp and for some seconds an inappropriately dressed woman could be seen. On January 11, he received a call where the caller introduced himself as Rahul Sharma and sent a short video of the victim watching the woman on his phone. Sharma said he was in the cyber team of YouTube and this video had been uploaded on the Net. Later, to delete the video and to ensure that it is not circulated further on other social media platforms, the man took nearly Rs 15 lakh from the victim via UPI,” said an officer of Mahaveer Nagar police station.
Police said it was found that the accused had withdrawn money from ATMs in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and other nearby states.
