Barmer: Barmer Lignite Mines Can Give 5mld Water To Industry | Jaipur News

Jaipur: As an experiment, Barmer Lignite Mining Company Ltd (BMCL) is preparing a plan to use the water collected at its two mines for industrial use. If it becomes successful, it could pave the way for several other operational mines to use the model.
Kapurdi and Jalipa mines in Barmer, which are operational, collect over 5 million litres per day water from seepage and they are treatable as the TDS level is below 500.
Addressing the board of directors of the company on Friday, ACS mines Veenu Gupta and chairperson of BMCL directed the officials to explore the possibilities of industrial use by treating about 5.51 million liters per day additional water source of seepage in Kapurdi and Jalipa Mines.
“Every drop of water is precious in Rajasthan. If the water available from seepage in mines is purified and used for industrial use, then it would be a good use of the resource. That’s why the company needs to coordinate with concerned departments including the Central Ground Water Department,” she said. She said both the mines have seepage water of 22.96 MLD out of which additional 3.98 MLD from Kapurdi and 1.53 MLD from Jalipa would be available after BLMCL’s utilization for its own needs. “Since the water of about 500 TDS, it can be purified and made suitable for industrial use,” she added.
