According to the plan, more than 20,000 people are expected to gather at PCC on that day. Dotasara, who was previously the education minister, took over as Rajasthan Congress chief in July 2020, replacing Sachin Pilot. Pilot was removed from the post and also sacked as deputy chief minister after he skipped two meetings of MLAs, despite numerous attempts by the party leadership to reach out to him. A party source stated, “Matching the tall stature of the former PCC chief was a challenge. However, Dotasara successfully navigated through it. Currently, the plan is to gather a crowd at PCC on July 28.”
Party sources indicate that the goal is to project Dotasara as a prominent Jat leader within Rajasthan Congress. As Jats wield influence over the poll outcome in 50 to 60 of the 200 Assembly seats, his position as a party chief strengthens the party’s position in the upcoming election. “The BJP has replaced the Jat party chief, resulting in a significant impact. The community’s influence is evident in the election of 10% to 15% Jat MLAs in every election, with as many as 31 Jat candidates winning in 2018. Dotasara’s key position will benefit the party as well.”
Having joined the party in 2005 while working as a lawyer, Dotasara won his first assembly election in 2008 from the Lakshmangarh constituency and has held the seat three consecutive times. His elevation to the post of PCC chief comes nearly 15 years after he contested his first election to become a member of a panchayat samiti in the state.
