Rajasthan govt staffer lures minor with free phone, rapes her | Jaipur News

JAIPUR/KOTA: A cashier working with the public health and engineering department (PHED) in Rajasthan kidnapped and raped a 17-year-old girl in Karauli district after luring her with a promise of getting her a free smartphone under the state government scheme launched the same day. The incident came to light on Saturday, when a video of the accused being thrashed by locals went viral.

The PHED employee, Sunil Jangir (35), allegedly lured the teenager when she was alone at home. “Promising to get her a smartphone, the accused asked the girl to come along with him in his vehicle,” Brijesh Kumar Meena, the station house officer of Todabhim police station, told TOI quoting the FIR.
The accused took the girl to a friend’s house, raped her at knifepoint and dropped her at an isolated place before going to his office, Meena added. The girl narrated the incident to passers-by, who stopped the accused. They tied him to an electric pole and thrashed him, but did not inform police, and the accused managed to flee. The girl’s family later lodged an FIR of kidnapping and rape.

In Jhalawar district, a seven-year-old girl was raped by her 35-year-old neighbour three days ago. The minor’s parents lodged an FIR on Thursday. Accused Vishnu Dangi was arrested on Friday. Both the accused have been booked under IPC and Pocso Act.
