Rajasthan nurses boycott work, threaten indefinite stir | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Nurses across the state boycotted work demanding higher salaries, cadre revision, increase in other allowances, among others, on Friday.
In a show of unity, they gathered at Ramlila Maidan in the city and gave an ultimatum to the government by threatening to go on an indefinite strike from September 5 if their 11 demands are not met. Many nurses came for the protest straight from hospitals after completing night duty.
With no one to attend to patients, over 15,000 Covid health assistants, who had protested earlier this year demanding jobs, stepped in to help at various hospitals.
Nurses to resume duty from today
“There is anger among nurses and they have taken pains to come to Jaipur from districts such as Jaisalmer, Barmer and Nagaur. We have been protesting for over three months, but the government has ignored it. We have unanimously decided to go on strike from September 5 for an indefinite period,” said Narendra Shekhawat, a nurse leading the protest. They submitted a memorandum with their list of 11 demands at the CMO.
Other than salary revision, their demands include changing the colour of white uniforms, designations, and benefits for those employed on contract. The nurses will resume duty on Saturday. They will submit memorandums to the CM through district collectors.
