Gold: 5 Of ‘5600’ Gang Held, Had Stolen Smuggled Gold From Three Cities | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A day after the Jaipur police’s crime branch arrested five individuals from the ‘5600’ gang, investigators discovered that the accused had stolen smuggled gold in Jaipur, Lucknow, and New Delhi.
“The gang robbed three couriers transporting illegal gold in Jaipur, and they were also involved in one heist each in New Delhi and Lucknow,” stated additional commissioner of police (Crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi. He explained that the gang named themselves after “5600” as it is believed to be license number of their liquor shop. “The gang also ran a liquor shop,” he said.
Police arrested accused identified as Akshaya Choudhary, Ashok Dhillan, Irfan, Nadeem, and Rizwan Khan.”We believe the gang comprises 15 to 16 suspects, but this is still being ascertained,” Bishnoi stated.
Discussing the gang’s modus operandi, the police stated that while the gang ran a liquor shop to divert attention, its leaders’ trick of the trade was to collude with couriers who were involved in smuggling gold from Gulf countries to India. The accused would obtain information about the gold being smuggled into the country through various couriers. They would entice these couriers to hand over the gold, while the couriers would then report to their bosses that the gold couldn’t be delivered due to a robbery.
“Since gold was brought in illegally, no one would report against the gang, and they continued with their tactics,” Bishnoi explained. He said the city police would inform the customs authorities and also police agencies in Lucknow and New Delhi about the gang’s alleged crimes. According to Bishnoi, the gang was notorious and was busted while the suspects were planning a major heist in the city.
