Sanjeev Kapoor: Police Tighten Drone Rules, Operators Need Nod To Fly | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Owners of drones, who fly them over the city without the required permission, could soon face legal trouble after the Jaipur police issued a comprehensive guideline on Tuesday about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Additional commissioner of police (law and order) Kunwar Rashtradeep has also directed all station house officers (SHOs) to ensure that the operations of drones in the city are strictly adhered to the guidelines prepared in accordance with the norms laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The new police guidelines stipulate that drones classified in the micro category by the DGCA, weighing over 250 grams, cannot be flown without prior police permission. Similarly, nano category drones, which the DGCA classified as those weighing less than 250 grams, will also be subject to strict police oversight before take-off.
Rashtradeep said that operators of nano-category drones will inform the relevant police station in the area where the drone is to be flown over for the purpose of photography.
“Nano-category drone operators will have to ensure that they do not fly over 50 feet, and that they comply with other mandatory safety provisions, such as not flying near aircraft,” he said. He also said that drone operators will need to obtain the requisite permissions from the DGCA for flying UAVs in ‘controlled’ airspace. Nano-category drone operators will also have to adhere to strict safety guidelines, such as not flying drones over people’s homes or when the battery is low. tnn
