Congress: Gehlot Is Cong’s Cm Face In Raj: Party Observer Desai | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Ashok Gehlot is Congress’s CM face in poll-bound Rajasthan and will carry on to “his fourth term” if the party returns to office, party observer Raghu Desai said on Saturday as he sought to draw a contrast with BJP’s lack of such a projection. Desai also remarked that former deputy CM Sachin Pilot is a “tall leader” who will help Congress get “re-elected”.
The comments mark a shift from Congress’s stated public position that elected MLAs will decide the legislature party leader after the polls and a perception that Pilot is also a CM post contender. Pilot had running feuds with Gehlot for years until the party forged a truce in recent months.
Desai was speaking after a meeting senior AICC observer Madhusudan Mistry convened here Saturday. The meet involved observers for the state’s 25 Lok Sabha seats and others asked to assess the party’s prospects zone-wise.
The observers, who are from other states, had to identify the most popular candidate who could win seats in the 2024 general elections and suggest a strategy for the upcoming assembly polls.
Desai is the observer for Jalore. Emerging from the meeting with Mistry, Desai claimed Congress could win all assembly seats in the district and followed it up with his assessment on Gehlot.
Desai attributed his confidence about Gehlot to the government’s “performance”, calling him a “magic wand” and stressing that Congress is fighting the elections under the CM’s leadership.
Praising Pilot as a pivotal figure who will help Congress form the government again, Desai took pot-shots at BJP, saying the saffron party is in “disarray”, with former CM and Vasundhara Raje “sidelined”. In Madhya Pradesh, also headed to the polls, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the CM but is not projected as one, said party observer Raghu Desai.
