Caste census in Raj in Cong’s next term: CM | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Friday that his government has decided to conduct a caste census in the state on the lines of Bihar to formulate targeted welfare schemes. He, however, added that the government would be able to do it once it is voted back to power.
After the party’s core committee meeting, Gehlot said this decision by the party is in line with its Raipur declaration. Major caste groups in Rajasthan, including the OBCs, have been demanding a caste census and an increase in reservation according to their population.
Congress in-charge for Rajasthan SS Randhawa said the core group meeting, which lasted for over four hours and a half, discussed preparations for the party’s ERCP yatra, booth-level preparations and other issues. A Congress working committee meeting is scheduled on Monday, he confirmed.
PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra said another meeting would be held on Monday to make detailed plans for the ERCP yatra to be launched in the 13 districts affected by the project and that the yatra date would also be announced. The party’s booth-wise campaign will be carried out with the slogan ‘Kaam kiya dil se, Congress phir se” (We worked with heart, Congress coming to power again), he said.
Six big rallies by national leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, are also being planned in the coming days, said Dotasra. “Each such meeting will be equal to the six rallies put together by PM Modi,” he added.
Dotasra said Congress would fight the upcoming Assembly election on the performance of its government and the failures of the Modi government at the Centre.
