Rajasthan: Voting Day On Devuthani Gyaras Cause Of Concern | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The election date in Rajasthan, November 23, is coinciding with the Devuthani Gyaras, a day which is considered as auspicious for weddings. This has become a cause of concern for those who have weddings already planned for the day. Also, it has created apprehensions that the voting percentage may get affected on the day.
However, neither the Congress nor the BJP have shown any concerns or apprehensions so far on this.
TOI on Tuesday spoke to stakeholders including political parties, event managers, and those involved in the marriage industry to know their opinion.
“We are going for elections on November 23, the date announced by the election commission. We are not concerned if it is coinciding with some special day. This will not dampen our zeal,” said Govind Singh Dotasara, president of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
C P Joshi, president of the BJP’s state unit, said, “As of now we have not faced any queries or apprehensions related to this. If anything comes up, we will decide or think about it. BJP workers with full energy are preparing for the polls.”
Radhey Shyam Natani, a resident of Jhotwara area, is concerned, though, as his relatives from all across Rajasthan will have to visit Ajmer for the wedding of his daughter. “Since the date was announced, there has been discussions within our family. Only my relatives who are in Ajmer can cast their votes there. Let’s see how this goes.”
As per the estimate of the All India Tent Dealers association, at least 50,000 weddings are planned across the state on November 23.
People are also expressing their resentment on social media. “This is considered as the most auspicious day for weddings and this has not been considered by the election commission. I won’t be able to vote,” wrote a user on social media.
Vipra foundation, an organisation for Brahmins, termed the date as “impractical” and has written to chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar with the request to change the date.
