Violent Protests Disrupt Devji Patel’s Campaign | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Violent protests on Wednesday marred the first campaign trail of Jalore-Sirohi MP Devji Patel who is contesting as a BJP candidate from Sanchore Assembly constituency.
Enraged by the selection of Patel by the party, supporters of local expectants attacked the Patel and his carcade on Wednesday morning and pelted stones on his carcade smashing glasses of the vehicles. They protesters, having placards in their hands, blocked his path when he was returning home from Pathmeda after paying obeisance at the temple of Kuldevi, showed him black flags and shouted slogans against him. He, however, didn’t sustain any injury. Later, a case was registered by Sanchore police against 10 persons by name and about forty to fifty unidentified persons on the complaint of his PA.
SP (Sanchore) Sagar Rana confirmed that the FIR has been registered and some persons have been identified. “We have identified some of the attackers, but no arrest has been made so far. It was politically motivated attack,” said Rana.
Attackers were said to be supporters of the Danaram Choudhary, who had contested last election from Sanchore Assembly constituency from BJP against Congress’s Sukhram Bishnoi, but had lost to him.
Patel, however, has termed the attackers as outsiders and not from the party, who attacked him under the veil of BJP workers.
“I have identified some of them. They were outsiders and had nothing to do with the party. They were some antisocial elements, who had come under the veil of BJP workers,” claimed Patel.
He said that seeing them blocking the road, he tried to talk to them but seeing their intentions, he rolled up the glass. On the other hand, supporters of Danaram assembled at the residence of Danaram insisting on reconsideration of candidate by the party. They said that he had been active in the field despite losing the election last time and holds the natural right to the ticket, whereas Patel never did anything for Sanchore, despite being the MP consistently for past three terms.
The Kalbi community is dominant in Jalore region and both Patel and Danaram belong to this community. It was the BJP, who had first recognized this strong presence of Kalbi community in the region and was the first to rope in candidate from this community, while Congress always chose the candidate from Bishnoi community, which si the second largest community. As per a Mandal level office bearer of BJP from Sachore, there is strong chance of shifting of Kalbi community away from BJP, if Danaram chooses to contest independent.
