JAIPUR: A dispute over dog poop inside a sprawling residential complex with many villas in Jagatpura, triggered a major fracas after influential residents, including a retired district judge who called cops on an Indian-German couple with a popular vlogging channel.
The Ramnagariya police station on Saturday arrested Uttam Sharma aka Arjun under “preventive measures.”
The row first began on Friday when a few residents chided the couple that their pet defecates on the street. The couple retorted that they immediately clean up faeces. The verbal spat soon continued as neighbours complained that the couple used expletives. Julia, on the other hand, alleged that one of the neighbours picked up hockey to attack her.
On Saturday, however, the couple started a live stream wherein they alleged that they were being attacked by the residents. In a video uploaded before his arrest, the visibly distressed couple said that a “mob” had gathered outside their house and broke their door and windowpane.
As the couple desperately tried to call the city police control room and the German embassy for urgent succour, they alleged that some people had vandalised their doors and windowpane.
Julia could be seen live-streaming their ordeal, when one of the persons in a group of residents, on the street, outside their house, could be heard screaming “Bana le video, yeh kam nahi ayega… tum blackmailer,” (shoot the video, it will not work.. You blackmailer).
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said that Sharma was arrested for allegedly slapping a girl.
The Ramangariya police said that multiple cross complaints have been received in the case. As per the complaint of the retired district judge, on Friday, Uttam and Julia took their pets on the street outside his neighbour’s house.
He alleged that the couple were in the past also instructed about their dogs defecating outside neighbour’s houses. This led to a heated exchange of words between them, alleging that Sharma misbehaved with a girl there.
Julia also filed a complaint at the Ramnagariya police station and alleged that the residents hurled invectives at her before trying to attack her with a hockey stick. When her husband tried to save her, the retried judge allegedly threatened to kill their dog.
Police said that she has also alleged in her complaint that she was allegedly subjected to race-related words before asking her “Angrez iss desh mein kya kar rahi hai? (What an English doing in this country).” On Friday too, the family had uploaded a video on their channel where some residents quarrelled with Uttam and Julia. The couple said that they always clean up their pet’s faeces.
The couple in their videos said they had tried contacting the Jaipur police but in vain.
The Jaipur police said that the German embassy had contacted them about the matter.
