Water hyacinth chokes Anasagar Lake, Ajmer residents complain of foul smell | Jaipur News

AJMER: Anasagar Lake is facing the problem of rapidly growing water hyacinth resulting degrading water quality, removing oxygen from water and creating problems for nearby residents with a foul smell enveloping the area.
The municipal corporation, looking at the regular problem of water hyacinth, purchased a de-weeding machine, but the administration is yet to use it. In the last few days, the water hyacinth has spread over several kilometre area of the lake. Professor Praveen Mathur, head of environment studies department at Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Praveen Mathur said the hyacinth decreases the water quality.
Visitors coming to Choupati here are discouraged by the stinking water in the lake. “There are hundreds of veterans and youth who come to Choupati every morning for a walk but with the stink, it is not possible to walk,” said a veteran residing in Christian Ganj. People are irked as a huge sum of money has been spent under the Smart City project, but no monitoring of the lake has been done.
Ajmer Municipal Corporation commissioner Sunil Kumar was not available to comment. The de- weeding machine has also not been used. Sources said the sewerage water of residential area entered the lake due to early rains.
