Jaipur: A priest in Bharatpur on Friday alleged that he received a threat letter warning him of meeting a fate like that of Udaipur’s Kanhaiya Lal if he did not leave the temple within 10 days.
Bharatpur police said the priest works at a temple in a college under Mathura Gate police station area. The priest had gone to the temple and found a threat letter pasted on a door. He alerted police about it and a group of senior officials soon arrived.
Bharatpur SP Shyam Singh said prima facie investigation indicates that the incident is a fallout of some rivalry. “We are probing the case but it appears to be a case of some enmity and rivalry,” said the official.
Police said they will provide security to the priest. Sources in Bharatpur police said the authorities managing the temple had removed a priest a couple of years ago and replaced him with the present priest. This has remained a contentious issue.
