Case Against Hostel Owner, Caretaker For Death By Negligence | Jaipur News

KOTA: The city police lodged a case of causing death by negligence and endangering human life under sections of IPC against owner Manohari and caretaker Rajiv Sharma of 10-storied hostel in Jawahar Nagar police station area on Friday evening.
A 20-year-old NEET aspirant had fallen to death from the sixth floor due to breaking of balcony window of aluminium net on February 2. Meanwhile, district administration served a show cause notice to the hostel management asking for a reply in three days and to repair the hostel infrastructure. CO, Jawahar Nagar area, DSP Amar Singh told on Saturday morning.
According to the findings of the probe, the owner and caretaker of the hostel building committed gross negligence in construction and maintenance of the building and did not obtain any required permission and approvals, said CO, Jawahar Nagar area, DSP Amar Singh.
The 10th floor building was illegally constructed without obtaining prior permission and approval from municipal corporation and other departments, the DSP said. Meanwhile, Kota district collector OP Bunkar said show cause notice was served to hostel management. The administration has appointed a committee under supervision of ADM (City) for regular monitoring and taking note of compliance with government’s guidelines in coaching institutes and hostels.
ADM (City), Raj Kumar Singh did not respond to repeated attempts for comments on compliance report. NEET aspirant Ishanshu Bhattacharya (20), resident of Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal, had fallen to death from the sixth floor of hostel Vatsalya building late night on February 2 as he leaned against the window with aluminium net while he was putting on his slippers. The window could not take his weight and gave way.
The boy had been preparing in a Kota coaching institute admission in medical college and staying in a hostel room in Jawahar Nagar area since August 2022. Though Ishanshu lived on the fourth floor, he along with his friends had gone to the sixth floor balcony to chit-chat. Deceased boy’s kin levelled allegations of gross negligence on hostel management while speaking to media when they arrived to collect the body after post-mortem on February 4. However, they did not give a report to the police.
