Raj Univ’s Central Library Yet To Open Even As New Digital Ones Announced | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Even three months after the inauguration of the Central Library at University of Rajasthan by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, the library is yet to be opened for students to use.
Due to the delay, students are also raising questions on how the government will fulfil promises of opening digital libraries in every district when existing infrastructure is not being given to students for use.
“The inauguration of the library at the university was already delayed by over two years and still it is not being given to students for use. This is the first digital library of the state at its biggest university and students are not able to use it. The library can be very helpful to students preparing for competitive exams and semester exams. Student leaders and unions have staged several protests also, but still no action has been taken, how will other digital libraries be opened in the state,” said Kush Kumar, a masters student at RU.
The foundation stone of the library was laid in July 2016 and the construction was completed by the end of 2019. In November, a student was on hunger strike at the campus for four days demanding the library to be opened.
Last week, a student leader, Harphool Choudhary also staged a protest at the university demanding that the library be opened for students. Last year, students from the RU tried breaking the locks of the Central Library twice before to access the library with ABVP representatives alleging that the newly constructed library was in a dilapidated condition, with termites on furniture, walls.
“Why are students being made to suffer despite proper infrastructure being available to them. There were no announcementsfor additional vacancies in the budget which have been a long-standing demand of the unemployed youth and the facilities that are available are also not being used,” said Upen Yadav, president of Rajasthan Berojgar Ekikrit Mahasangh.
