Camel Raisers In Jaisalmer On A High As Govt Begins Work On New Conservation Scheme | Jaipur News

JAISALMER: With the state government having announced a conservation scheme for camels after a gap of three years in the Budget, officials have started visiting villages in Jaisalmer district to get forms filled by camel owners and inform about the scheme by tagging the camels. The scheme has brought cheers among the camel raisers.
Nodal officer Devendra Kumar, who visited Rasla panchayat, said the state government had started a camel development scheme in 2016, but discontinued it in 2019. As per the latest scheme, he said, camel raisers will get Rs 10,000 in three instalments and have to apply for it online through e-mitras.
Degrai Usht Sansthan president Sumer Singh Sanwata said the largest number of camels in the country are found in Rajasthan and that the largest numbers of camels in Rajasthan are found in Jaisalmer district. “There are more than 50,000 camels in just four villages in Degrai pastureland, including Sanwata, Rasla, Achla and Bhopa. The camel raisers of Jaisalmer suffered the most when this scheme got closed. Now that this scheme has been started, it will provide relief to camel raisers,” he said.
As per the scheme, on the birth of a camel calf, physical verification will be done by the nearest veterinary doctor till two months. After this, the camel raiser will get Rs 5,000 in his account. After completion of one year of the calf, a second physical verification will be done and another Rs 5,000 will be given in the camel raiser’s account. In the meantime, if the calf dies, no benefit will be given. If the female camel gives birth to a second calf, the benefit will be given only if the registration of the female camel has completed 15 months.
Animal husbandry department joint director Dr Ashok Kumar said the benefit will be given on the birth of camel calves on or after November 1, 2022. For this, camel raisers must apply online by February 28 and ensure tagging of female camels and calves, he added.
