Surra: Six Pregnant Camels Among Eight Die Of ‘surra Disease’ | Jaipur News
Jaisalmer: The spread of “Surra disease” among camels in villages of Sankada area in Jaisalmer district has caused the death of sixpregnant animals and two calves. Animal husbandry department deputy director Ashok Suthar said that samples collected and sent to Jodhpur for investigation have confirmed that this is ‘Surra disease’. He said this disease is of two types and the one that has spread in Sankada area produces symptoms that make it appear the camel has “gone mad”.
Camel rearers in the area also said that the infected camel “goes mad”, becomes weak, and is soon unable to eat. Degrai Usht Palan society president Sumer Singh Bhati said that the disease spread in the last 3 days in many villages in Sankada area, especially in Jaimla, Modradi, and Guddi. The camels remain sick for 2-3 days and then they die, he said.
He said a team from the animal husbandry department collected samples on Wednesday and a team of doctors from the department vaccinated the camels on Thursday. Bhati said the doctors prescribed an injection for Surra disease which was not available at the veterinary hospital or in any private medical store.
