Jln Marg: Traffic Comes To Grinding Halt In City For Second Straight Day | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Following the IT Day Fair on JLN Marg and the doctors’ protest at Statue Circle, traffic arrangement crippled in the state capital for two days in a row even on Tuesday. Although the impact was less on Tuesday, traffic at a few important crossings in the city, especially on Tonk Road, came to a standstill for some time.
“Owing to doctor’s protest there was pressure on Tonk Road and we had to divert traffic for some time to JLN Marg. But it was not that effective because a stretch on JLN Marg between Gandhi Circle and Jawahar Kala Kendra was also blocked. In all, traffic moved at a snail’s pace in the afternoon. At a few crossings it came to a standstill for a while,” said a traffic official.
A few senior police officials from the Jaipur Police Commissionerate had claimed that the idea to host the IT Day Fair at JKK and Commerce College on JLN Marg and blocking that road proved to be counterproductive. The decision was primarily responsible for traffic chaos that the city witnessed in the last couple of days.
“The stretch on JLN Marg was blocked for commuters since Sunday afternoon, it remained closed till 5pm on Tuesday. Due to this decision there was tremendous rush on city roads as Monday and Tuesday were weekdays. We had earlier requested the government to host the IT Day Fair at the Sitapura Industrial Estate. But CMO decided to hold it on JLN Marg,” a senior police official told TOI, on conditions of anonymity.
Besides Tonk Road and Jhalana Bypass Road there was huge traffic even on the interior streets of Gandhi Nagar, Bapu Nagar and Bajaj Nagar on Tuesday. Vehicles coming from Malviya Nagar were diverted towards Tonk Road from the JKK crossing. Similar situation was seen at Trimurti Circle where the vehicles coming from there had to turn towards Tonk Road from Gandhi Circle.
“Vehicles from north or east Jaipur heading towards Malviya Nagar, Jagatpura and airport generally split and take JLN Marg or the Jhalana Bypass Road. On Monday and Tuesday all these vehicles were diverted to Jhalana Bypass Road, adding to commuters’ woes on that road,” a traffic official added.
