Bajra: Millet Menu: Bajra, Ragi, Jowar For Raj Cops In Police Canteens | Jaipur News
Jaipur: To mark the international year of millets (IYM) announced by the United Nations, Rajasthan police has now introduced a millet-based menu for its forces in the canteens of all police lines.
Talking to TOI, ADGP (police welfare) Bipin Kumar Pandey said that the state police will introduce millets like bajra, ragi, and jowar in canteens across police lines.
“Millets have multiple health benefits because they are packed with nutrients, we want to create awareness about millets amongst police personnel,” he said.
Although wheat and rice will continue as part of regular police meals, millet will be a new healthy addition.
According to Pandey, the millet items will be given priority in police canteens as well as shops inside police lines. “We have also decided to make millets available in shops,” he said.
He said that millet will also be available in police lines and battalion headquarters. Similarly, awareness campaigns will be held across all districts for constables. Pandey has issued directions to all district SPs about prioritising millets.
As per officials, a millet diet is very suitable for the local conditions of Rajasthan. “Millets contain proteins and have fewer carbohydrates. Most importantly, Bajra, Ragi, and Jowar are gluten-free and healthy sources of energy, which is ideal for Rajasthan police,” said an official.
Rajasthan is one of the largest producers of Bajra in the country and traditional dishes like Bajra ki roti and Bajre ki khichdi are still part of everyday diet in many families across the state.
“Police personnel work for long hours under strenuous conditions. Some do not even get time for proper healthy meals. I think it is a very good initiative by the PHQ to introduce millets in canteens and messes so that intake of daily nutrients and complex vitamins could be added into regular meals,” said a police official.
