Churu Cop Promoted For Fighting Shooters | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The Rajasthan police on Thursday promoted Churu police constable Ramesh Kumar to the rank of head constable for bravely taking on shooters despite being injured.
DGP Umesh Mishra issued the order for gallantry promotion of Kumar. He also lauded Kumar’s courage in facing armed criminals. The incident took place on Wednesday in Churu’s Sujangarh area where three gunmen opened fire at a jewellery shop that Kumar was deputed to guard. Kumar was injured in the attack but he not only fired back at the gunmen but also chased them and caught hold of one of them.
The district police said that Kumar was deployed to provide security cover to a leading jeweller who had been receiving extortion calls from a notorious gangster. “Despite being under heavy fire, Kumar kept his cool and fought back,” said an officer. “The three gunmen began fleeing from the market. However, Kumar caught hold of one of the accused with the help of locals.”
“Not only did Kumar apprehend the attacker, he also safely escorted him to police custody,” the officer added. Police sources said that the gunmen fired multiple rounds at the jewellery shop where Kumar was posted. “Churu police are probing the case. They have interrogated one of the attackers and we are hopeful that the remaining suspects would be held soon,” the officer said. TNN
