Bisalpur-ii Project To Reduce Jaipur’s Dependency On Tankers, Groundwater | Jaipur News

Jaipur: With implementation of Bisalpur-II project, it is expected that tanker mafia raj would be reduced in most localities of the state capital, thereby decreasing the dependency on groundwater to a great extent.
“Besides tankers deployed by the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED), around 600-700 tankers rule the city every day, especially during the summer months. With the implementation of Bisalpur II project and subject to availability of sufficient water in the dam this dependency would reduce to a great extent. Groundwater is the main source for these tankers and with this the dependency on groundwater would reduce too,” said Satish Jain, the superintendent engineer (project) of PHED.
Under the Bisalpur II project PHED is aiming to supply 816 MLD water to Jaipur from the Bisalpiur Dam. At present PHED can only supply 600 MLD water to the city. This additional 216 MLD water would help in providing new connections to added areas around Jagatpura, Pratap Nagar, parts of Bagru Assembly constituency and the colonies under the Kho Nagorian areas.
Another PHED official said the department would increase the water supply to localities in the walled city where there are complaints of low water pressure, provide new connections even in areas where there are pipeline connections, and, most importantly, provide pipeline water to highrises in the city.
“All these areas were heavily depended on tankers. If not in summer months of this year, next summer these localities dependence on tankers would reduce drastically. Another seven eight years down the line, Jaipur would start getting water under the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). In all, if everything works fine, city’s dependence on its groundwater would be almost zero,” the PHED official added.
“We are not in a position to share information on how much Bisalpur II project would impact the ground water in Jaipur. We had not done any studies because PHED is yet to share official figures related to Bisalpur II project with us,” said VN Bhave, additional chief engineer of Groundwater Department.
