Ashok Gehlot rakes up MLA bribe case again, lauds tribal MLA in Banswara, BJP fumes | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday once again referred to the 2020 rebellion by his then-deputy Sachin Pilot and BJP’s alleged attempt at the time to destabilise his government, prompting sharp criticism from the Opposition party.
“I cannot refuse any of the demands of Ramila Khadia, the Independent MLA from Kushalgarh in Banswara, as it is because of people like her that I continue to be the chief minister. As people came with crores of rupees and put it in a trunk for withdrawing support to the Congress government, she refused,” said Gehlot in his address to a meeting in Banswara.
Gehlot said BJP succeeded in destabilising the governments in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka but failed in Rajasthan because of people like Khadia, a tribal MLA. The CM asked the audience to give her a big round of applause.
Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore took to Twitter and denounced Gehlot in a long post.
“Ashok Gehlot, apart from being the chief minister of Rajasthan, you are also the head of the state home department. When the people involved in the conspiracy to topple the government came to Banswara with money to buy the independent MLA and even kept the money in the trunk, why did your intelligence agency sit idle? Why was no action taken against those people?” he asked.
“You yourself are the home minister, and the police are also under you. So why is there a fear in releasing the list of the money takers and givers?” asked Rathore.
Reminding Gehlot of the “dignity in the post of chief minister,” Rathore told him in the Twitter post,
“It would be better if you, while occupying a constitutional position, stop creating a storm in the teacup by making new statements about the horse-trading of MLAs and pay attention to the issues of the public in the state.”
