Abductors In Cops’ Uniform Thrashed By Villagers, 1 Held | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: One of six men who came to a village in Bharatpur district posing as policemen was caught by the villagers and beaten black and blue on Sunday.
All the six imposters were identified by a youth who was abducted by them on January 19 and released after his family paid them Rs 6 lakh.
The man caught by the residents of Jurhera village and was handed over to police. This was the fourth incident in the region of criminals arriving in police uniform and attempting to abduct people for ransom, said locals. Police said the six men in police uniform had arrived at Jurhera village in a jeep on Sunday and one of the village youths, Ismail, identified them.
“The youth told the villagers that they are not from police and are imposters who had abducted him on January 19 and had taken Rs 6 lakh from his parents to release him. The villagers then attacked the six. Five managed to flee, and one was caught and beaten black and blue. We reached after receiving information and took him into custody. He was identified as Sajjid,” said an officer of Jurhera police station on Monday.
Police are now working on identifying and arresting the absconding five men. On Monday, Ismail lodged a case against the six men. The abduction and ransom payment as narrated by Ismail is also under investigation now, said an official.
“An investigation found that some people from neighbouring Haryana have been coming dressed as policemen and taking people away from these villages. They ask for ransom to release them,” said the officer.
