Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had received several complaints against the medical superintendent of JK Lon Hospital, Kota in the past, but the complainants did not pursue plaints seriously.
The ACB had sent a few complaints to the medical and health department when the accused doctor was serving as medical superintendent for last 18 months in Kota. This was revealed by ACB officers on Saturday, a day after arresting Dr Heera Lal Meena for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
TOI on Saturday spoke to senior ACB officers to know more about the investigations.
“We had received many complaints against Meena in the past but in these cases the complainants preferred not to come on record. While dealing with the cases of Prevention of Corruption Act we need complaint to be on record. Thus, these verbal complaints were sent to the medical and health department for further inquiry,” said BL Soni, director general, ACB.
On Saturday the accused doctor was produced in ACB court from where he was sent to judicial custody till August 26. “In the Prevention of Corruption Act cases we need incriminating documents for a strong case against the accused. So far, we have received some documents that are solid evidence against the doctor,” Soni added.
He added that in the past 18 months of his stint when Covid-19 hit Rajasthan, the accused was asking for bribe for almost everything, varying from clearing pending bills to giving favours to private firms by giving them contracts for the infrastructural work etc.
“So far we have not found how much per cent he asked to clear the bills. In this case he had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.70 lakh for clearing bills of Rs 30 lakh. In further investigation we will take certified copies of various files that were under the accused medical superintendent. We will scrutinise these files to know if they can be used as evidence against him,” said Vijay Swarnkar, additional SP, ACB in Kota.
