Kota: Bundi district police confiscated 98kg of poppy husk from a car near Sutra village, situated on the Kota-Udaipur highway. The incident took place late on Friday night when the smugglers, upon noticing the police team at a checkpoint, hastily abandoned their vehicle and fled.
The smugglers were initially on the run after forcibly breaking through barricades at a police checkpoint in Bijolia, Bhilwara district. Acting on this tip-off, the Dabi police station officials intensified their vigilance and vehicle inspections at the checkpoint near Sutra village.
As the police team remained on high alert, the two suspects quickly abandoned the car by the roadside and disappeared into the nearby forest, leaving behind a stash of illicit substances.
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, police found 98kg of poppy husk packed in plastic bags. Additionally, it was found that the number plate displayed on the vehicle was counterfeit.
A case has been registered against the unidentified culprits under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police have initiated an extensive search operation in the forest area to nab the accused.
SP Jai Yadav from Bundi visited the site of the incident to assess the situation firsthand and issued directives to the authorities to expedite the capture of the fleeing criminals. Both the seized contraband and the vehicle have been placed under police custody at the Dabi police station.
