Stop Using Words That Are Demeaning To Divyangs: Court | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The court of the state commissioner for specially abled persons gave directions to all the political parties “to instruct their members strictly to refrain from using any derogatory words or actions, to describe the performance of a government, which in any manner shall demean the specially abled persons”.
Commissioner Uma Shankar Sharma gave these directions in reference to the words used by BJP ex-MLA Bhairaram Siyol (Chaudhary) during a political rally on April 19. Siyol used words like ‘blind, deaf and lame’ to describe the performance of the state government. The commissioner in his order said, “The words used by the ex-MLA are derogatory, insulting and very unfortunate.”
“This speech of the ex-MLA includes words which are derogatory to the specially abled persons as these have been used to insult their disability. Complaints in this regard have also been received from Satyendra Rathore (Viklang Jan Kranti) in writing, Ghamanda Ram Rajbera through social media and by several specially abled persons from Osian stating that the accused completely ignored and hurt feelings of the specially abled persons and used these words only with intention to attack political rivals,” said Sharma in the order.
“His only intention was to attack the opponent political party and he used these words to show that persons suffering from these ailments, as used in his derogatory words, are inferior to others. This is in complete violation of the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPwD), 2016,” he added.
“He, being a former MLA, is required and expected to be careful and cautious while using words, particularly in public. The election commission, parties, district collectors and SPs are required to deal with this situation seriously,” the order said further.
