Agra: German Journo Back On Feet After Surgery | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: A German journalist who suffered a stroke during his visit to Agra as a tourist has started walking again after clots were removed from his brain artery at a private hospital in Jaipur.
The mechanical thrombectomy procedure is a new technique in which doctors remove clots in the brain by entering a catheter through the thigh, just like a cardiac interventionist removes clots from heart arteries without surgery.
The 49-year-old journalist, after covering the men’s hockey world cup in Odisha, had come to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra where he suffered a brain stroke. From Agra he was brought to the private hospital in Jaipur.
“Usually, 4.5 hours are crucial in treatment of brain stroke after the onset. Within 4.5 hours, an injection is given for dissolving blood clots and restoring blood flow to the brain. But the patient was brought to us after 22 hours of onset of stroke,” said Dr Madan Mohan Gupta, consultant, neuro intervention.
