Jaipur: By the end of this financial year, air-conditioned electric buses will be part of the city’s public transport for the first time. The Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) will soon start the procurement process for these buses.
Out of a total 420 e-buses that JCTSL will procure, 300 would be for Jaipur roads. Ninety buses are meant for Kota and 70 for Jodhpur.
“We are waiting for the model code of conduct to be over to start the bidding process. We also need a permission from the Union government. In all, if everything works fine, e-buses would hit the city roads byMarch 2024,” said a senior JCTSL official.
JCTSL would also procure 80 diesel buses for district towns – 35 for Udaipur, 15 for Bharatpur and another 30 for Ajmer.
“E-buses for city transport are a welcome move. The buses are air-conditioned and have low maintenance cost. Hopefully, there won’t any problems with the procurement process, even if there’s a change in government,” another JCTSL official said.
Officials stated that the government would procure two types of e-buses as well as diesel buses – one of 9 metres in length and the other of 12 metres in length.
