Jaipur: The city will soon be equipped with an air quality early warning system (AQEWS) to track real-time data on air pollution and make forecasts based on it.
The system will alert on any large-scale air pollution events which may occur over Jaipur region. Based on the alerts, the authorities can take measures to prevent air pollution. People with respiratory diseases will be able to prevent exposure to air pollution.
For the purpose of starting it in Jaipur, the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) will sign an MoU with Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). Based on the system’s alerts, steps can be taken as per the graded response action plan (GRAP) of the Centre.
Doctors treating respiratory diseases expressed happiness at the news. “If patients receive information in advance about rise in air pollution, they can take preventive measures,” said Dr Virendra Singh, a senior pulmonologist.
An MoU will also be signed between NTPC and RSPCB to set up 15 new CAAQMS stations to monitor air quality in the state.
