MHA asks Bengal govt for report on post-poll violence targeting opposition workers | India News

NEW DELHI: Ministry of home affairs on Monday asked West Bengal government to submit a report on post-poll violence that took place in the state.
The BJP on Sunday alleged that one of its party offices in Hooghly district was set on fire, and some of its leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, were heckled by TMC activists.
The BJP also claimed that one of its members were severely beaten up by TMC activists in the city’s Beleghata area.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee denied allegations of violence and said, “they (BJP) are posting photographs of old riots, it is their habit. I do not like any violence. Why BJP is doing that? Even after winning with a thumping majority, we did not do any kind of celebration.”
She further urged to people to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence, and fight against Covid-19.
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won 213 seats in West Bengal assembly elections. BJP garnered 77 seats.
