As Demand Grows, State Govt May Consider Raising Number Of Nregs Working Days | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Amidst slashing of budget allocation for MGNREGS for the financial year 2023-24 to Rs 60,000 crore by the Centre, there is a demand in Rajasthan to increase the number of working days under the employment guarantee scheme to 200.
Meanwhile, in a bid to boost rural employment, the state government may consider increasing the number of working days under the Chief Minister’s Employment Guarantee Scheme from 25 to 50 days (after completion of 100 days).
The budget for MGNREGS has received a sharp cut from Rs 73,000 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 60,000 crore in 2023-24 even as the actual expenditure in the current financial year is likely to touch Rs 90,000 crore.
NREGA Sangharsh Morcha and Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyaan have demanded an increase in the number of working days under NREGA to 200. Meanwhile, the Centre has revised the MGNREGA labour budget to Rs 30 crore for the ongoing financial year 2022-23. So far, the state has generated 28.74 crore persondays under the scheme.
Earlier, state’s rural development and panchayati raj minister Ramesh Chand Meena had slammed the Centre for slashing NREGA allocation saying, “the 33% reduction of NREGA budget by the Centre was ‘unfortunate’ and has caused a lot of disappointment among rural people”.
He had appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union rural development and panchayati raj minister Giriraj Singh to reconsider the budget allocation for MGNREGA.
On the call of NREGA Sangharsh Morcha and Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyaan, Rajasthan, dharnas and rallies were taken out at 88 places in 30 districts to protest a sharp cut in MGNREGA budget and the use of NMMS app in marking attendance of labourers.
Memoranda addressed to PM Narendra Modi were submitted to tehsildars, BDOs, SDOs and collectors.
