As Tourist Flow Thins, Flight Services Discontinued At Jaisalmer Airport | Jaipur News
Jaisalmer: With the summer heat rising and the number of tourists reducing, silence prevails at Jaisalmer civil airport as all the five flights operating from here have been stopped.
SpiceJet and Alliance Air had been operating flights from Jaisalmer to Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai in winter schedule from October, but as the tourist season ended, they stopped operating all these flights. SpiceJet stopped its services on March 31 while Alliance Air did so on April 14.
Since the last flight from Jaisalmer took off for Delhi April 14, there is silence at the airport. Locals and the personnel of army, air force and BSF are disappointed that flights have stopped. The civil airport, constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore, will lie deserted till October, except when a charter plane comes.
During summer, the number of tourists decreases and airlines do not have a viable passenger load. To avoid losses, they run flight services from October to March.
“All the offices were open, and employees were coming till April 14, when the last flight was operated. The onset of summer has cut off the flow of tourists,” said civil airport in-charge Anubhav Jain.
Akhil, a travel agent, said it was unfortunate for Jaisalmer and nearby districts that no airline operates flight service in Jaisalmer in summer.
“The defence personnel and locals face a lot of problems in going to Jaipur and Delhi. Jaisalmer has a big base of army, air force and BSF, and their personnel face problems in their travel for duty and for going to their homes on leave. Jaisalmer also does not have good train connectivity,” Akhil said.
