Ashok Chandna: ‘joblessness Figures Rising Due To Unemployment Allowance’ | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Minister for youth and employment Ashok Chandna told the assembly on Tuesday that unemployment figures have increased due to high unemployment allowance. He was answering a question by BJP MLA Satish Poonia.
“The biggest reason for the increase in applications for unemployment allowance is the high unemployment allowance,” the minister claimed.
He said unemployment allowance was initially Rs 3,500 which was increased to Rs 4,000 and further to Rs 4,500 per month in this Budget. Since then a large number of youth have applied for it. “Only after scrutiny it will be known whether they are unemployed or not,” he said.
He informed that according to the department portal as on February 21, a total of 18.40 lakh unemployed youths were registered, in which there were 11.22 lakh men, 7.17 lakh women and 399 others. He informed that till February 21, 6.22 lakh youths were given unemployment allowance.
The minister said only educated unemployed are given unemployment allowance for two years. “Allowance is currently being given to 1,90,873 eligible candidates which include 1,07,431 men and 83,442 women,” he said, and added that a total of 10.08 lakh educated unemployed applied for this scheme.
The minister said the statistics of unemployment rate are not maintained by the department and it is not mandatory to register unemployed candidates. He said that the state government organises employment assistance camps to provide jobs to the unemployed youths. From January 2019 to January 2023, 1,062 employment support camps have been organized and these have helped 1,08, 890 youths.
