Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav says ED is back again, people know why | Jaipur News

NEW DELHI: The ED raids in Rajasthan and summons to CM Gehlot’s son triggered a political slugfest, with Congress saying the central agency was being misused by BJP as it feared defeat in the forthcoming elections to the state assembly and that the searches were in violation of the model code of conduct. BJP defended the action and said this had nothing to do with the elections and the agency was only acting against corruption, stressing that the investigation against Govind Singh Dotasra in the teacher recruitment exam paper leak case pertained to the future of Rajasthan’s youth.
Vaibhav, who was summoned in a FEMA case, said similar charges were brought earlier. “The ED has come back again with the same allegations. People understand why this is happening when there is an election code of conduct,” Vaibhav told reporters.
The ED also raided the residences of independent MLA from Mahwa (Dausa) Om Prakash Hudla and some other accused in the case.
In the paper leak case, the ED had conducted searchers at seven places on October 13, including the residences of accused Dinesh Khodania, Ashok Kumar Jain, Spurdha Chaudhary, Suresh Dhaka and others and seized copies of sale deeds of various properties, electronic devices and Rs 24 lakh in cash. The ED’s money laundering probe is based on a chargesheet filed by Rajasthan police.
“Investigation revealed that accused persons leaked the question paper of Senior Teacher Grade II Exam scheduled for December 21-24, 2022, and provided it to appearing candidates for the consideration of Rs 8 to 10 lakh per candidate,” the ED had then claimed.
The agency had attached properties of several accused in the case worth over Rs 3 crore in August and had arrested three people, including Babulal Katara, the former member of Rajasthan Public Service Commission, and his associates Anil Kumar Meena and Bhupendra Saran who were allegedly involved in selling the leaked paper.
Vaibhav Gehlot is being investigated in connection with his business dealings with one Ratan Kant Sharma, the promoter of Triton Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd and Vardha Enterprises Pvt Ltd.
Sharma, who was earlier investigated by the ED in 2020 in a case related to Fairmont Hotel in Jaipur, was Vaibhav’s alleged partner in a car rental business. Sharma allegedly received Rs 97 crore from Mauritius in his hotel business, which is under investigation.
The ED had claimed that its investigation against Sharma was “on the basis of credible information wherein Triton Hotels & Resorts received FDI from Shivnar Holdings Ltd of Mauritius at a huge premium which was revised several times violating FEMA provisions”.
Vaibhav may appear before the ED later this month.
