Athletes Should Head Sports Federations: Geeta Phogat | Jaipur News

Jaipur: As the controversy around Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) continues to simmer, Olympian wrestler Geeta Phogat remarked that politicians should not be allowed to hold positions in the sports associations.
“If a former player is at the helm of a sporting federation, he/she will better understand the sportspersons and can help in their growth. There should be no political interference whatsoever. With PT Usha heading IOA, players’ sentiments will get priority and that’s a good sign,” the Haryana wrestler said on the sidelines of the Bano Champion opening ceremony on Sunday.
Meanwhile, to develop a sports culture in Rajasthan and to provide free professional coaching to young adults at semi-urban locations, a three-day state-level tournament Bano Champion was inaugurated at the SMS Indoor Stadium. The programme had started with village and district-level competitions across 61 locations in the state. The focus is on creating champions in athletics, football, throwball, volleyball and other games of local preference. The programme is an AU Small Finance Bank initiative. tnn
