‘Australia boast good batters, but we are…’, says Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter, Sarfaraz Ahmed, recognises the formidable batting line-up of Australia in Test cricket. However, he expresses confidence that Pakistan’s batting order is on par with any other team.
The three-match Test series between Pakistan and Australia is set to commence in Perth on December 14, followed by matches in Melbourne and Sydney.”Australia boast good batters, but we are no less. With Abdullah, Babar, Imam, Saud, and Agha in our ranks, we are well-equipped for the challenge,” said Sarfaraz to reporters ahead of the four-day game against PM’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra beginning from Wednesday.
Sarfaraz also commended the skill and quality of the bowlers in his squad, with the majority of them set to make their debut with the red ball in Australia.
“Shaheen and Hasan are exceptional, and we have the likes of Mir Hamza, Khurram Shehzad, and Fahim, who have proven their mettle in domestic competitions,” he said.
Sarfaraz also reminisced about the memorable moment when West Indies power-hitter Chris Gayle scored a remarkable 200 in the 2015 Men’s ODI World Cup at the same venue. He expressed his hope to draw inspiration from that historic performance as his team gears up for a significant series against Australia.
“I remember watching Chris Gayle’s incredible innings of 200 runs against Zimbabwe at Manuka Oval. Now, as we brace ourselves for a four-day clash in Canberra against Australia, the weather seems to be good. This match holds an immense significance as it kickstarts the three-match test series against the formidable Australian team.”
Pakistan have never secured a Test series victory in Australia, and Sarfaraz extended his best wishes to the newly-appointed captain, Shan Masood, as the team aims to change that record.
“It’s always an honor to lead your country, and I want to congratulate Shan Masood for his role. The camaraderie between Babar Azam, Muhammad Hafeez, and Shan Masood is a testament to the strong bond within our camp.”
On a humble note, Sarfaraz expressed his willingness to play any role within the team and contribute to its success. “I am happy to play any role – whether as a batter or a wicket-keeper – in contributing to the success of the team.”
