Awareness About Special Edu Courses Increasing | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Special education courses have been increasing in both government and private institutions with demand for such educators also increasing due to norms of Rehabilitation Council of India, however, experts said that jobs in this profession needs to be highlighted by the government sector.
Rajasthan University and Jai Narain Vyas University in Jodhpur are some of the institutions that offer a B.Ed. in special education.
In Jaipur, Disha Foundation offers courses like B.Ed. in special education (learning disability), B.Ed. in special education (intellectual disability) and D.Ed. in special education which are affiliated to RU.
“There are opportunities available for those who study special education but there is a need for awareness regarding these opportunities in the government sector, especially in the field of learning disability. In today’s scenario there are a vast number of children with learning disabilities and every school needs such special educators. In the field of intellectual disability, there are various teachers working as counsellors in private schools,” said Dr Bharti Khunteta, director and administrator of Disha Foundation.
Officials said that for Bachelor of Education there are 30 seats and Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) has 35 seats. In the start, many of these course seats used to be empty but now to boost the course, the admission process has changed and there is a direct entry for this course without any entrance examination and it is first come first serve basis. The eligibility criteria for general students are B.A & B.Sc. with 50% while for reserved categories it is 45% in the degree courses.
Officials also said that after these special education degrees, the students easily get jobs as different state governments are appointing B.Ed. Special education and D.Ed. special education qualification holders as resource teachers in each district. Students with B.Ed. degree can give REET exams and work as teachers too in private schools.
